'Santa Lane' | 6th & Pine

In 1998, Nordstrom relocated its Seattle Flagship Store to the landmark Frederick & Nelson building known for a 'Pictures with Santa' holiday tradition that began 1944. Creating a new Seattle tradition, the project required continuing that tradition in a unique and magical way. As designer, concepting the new experience as a gabled Santa House with great room and waiting hall, I worked alongside Store Design, Callison Architects and Edifice Construction to create the new ‘Santa Lane'. In the inaugural year, combining two great Seattle traditions, I also partnered with Pacific Northwest Ballet's scenic painters to create painted facade panels based on the 'The Nutcracker' Maurice Sendak illustrations. Inspired by craftsman style architecture, I designed and executed the exterior facade and Interior decor with a framework to adapt to Nordstrom's holiday theme changes including the 'Once Upon A Holiday' Theme in 2007.
